Brief History of the Bengal breed:
Jean Mill (Millwood) in the USA founded the breed in 1975 by crossing a
Asian Leopard (a small Leopard cat weighing around 8 to 10lbs and
extremely shy) to a domestic cat. Jean met a lot of opposition along
the way but persevered to get the Bengal breed started. The early
generations, variant Bengals had 'F' (foundation) numbers denoting
the generation from the wild or from an outcross, e.g. the first kittens
out of a mating between an ALC and a domestic cat were F1 hybrids.
These kittens then had to be mated with other domestic breeds to prevent
in-breeding and the result was F2 hybrids etc. It is not until they
are F4 hybrids from the wild and/or from an outcross, and there are three
generations of Bengal to Bengal breeding, that they are true Bengals.
They have always been bred to retain the look of their wild ancestors
combined with the temperament of loving family pets.
They need no extra care and should be treated the same as any other
domestic cat.

Characteristics:
Bengal cats are extremely intelligent and learn
quickly how to open doors, retrieve toys, attack toilet rolls and
take the ham out of sandwiches! They are truly beautiful; with soft
coats sparkling with golden glitter, and two tone rosetting like the wild
cats.
There are 7 types of Bengal;-
Brown/Black spotted/rosetted,
Brown/Gold Marble (tri-coloured)
Blue-eyed Snow spotted/rosetted
Blue-eyed Snow Marble
AOC (any other colour eyed) Snow
Spotted/rosetted

AOC Snow Marble
Silver
Bengals are affectionate and attach very much like dogs do to their
owners. Unlike most cats Bengals love water, and enjoy drinking from
a dripping tap or trying to join you for a bath! They are active
cats with strong personalities and can be naughty although they will try
and fool you by looking so innocent.

About
Gaylee:
After winning
UK SUPREME Kitten
with a Burmese chocolate boy I bred, Gaylee Whiskey Mac in 1991 I was
looking for a new challenge and so became one of the first breeders to
import Bengals into the UK. We have been to the USA and stayed with
Jean Mill to ensure we had some of the best, and dependable Bengal lines.
We are small breeders and this is a hobby for us, so we are able to breed
for quality and not quantity. Our females and kittens live in our
home and are part of our family, (they are never caged outside) kittens
raised this way have the best temperaments. Many hours are spent playing,
socializing and getting to know each kitten individually, as this will
effect the rest of the kittens life.
The studs we use have up to date pedigrees are fully rosetted with great
definition, have wild type heads and loving temperaments, from the best
USA and imported lines, as well as a stud bred by us.
We specialise in black rosetted
Bengals with pale golden glittered backgrounds giving extreme contrast,
wild head types with smallish rounded ears and long bodies. Many of our
kittens also have lightened tummies.
We have some great lines
including the 'Abu' ALC line which was started by Bob Torquato of San
Diego. Gaylee played a major role in developing this line to F4
status, then sent the first active F4 boy from this line back to
the USA in 2001 to help them progress, thus securing this new ALC line for
the future of the breed. We did of course keep a girl out of the
mating.
Our prices are reasonable
